I've always been a fan of Gillian Welch. The true-to-it's-rootsy Americana, combined with the old-soul voices and David Rawling's virtuoso guitar are hard to argue with.
But now with the David Rawlings Machine things seem to be much more interesting. Tiny venue, cheap tickets, conversational informality... But beyond this, great guests - you never know who's going to be there, and cover selections that are near genius. Also, from a large set of people with diverse musical tastes, I've never met an unsatisfied customer of their shows. And from reading the blogs, there is no shortage of rabid fans.

Tips on the Largo:
At least in the big room, this doesn't seem to sell out. Tickets are available before the show. Come 15 minutes before box office opens, get your tickets (cash only) and go out for dinner.
Don't be late coming back, and turn your cell phone off. You can get coffee and cider inside, but no food or alcohol. If you're particularly rowdy get seats on the back row left. There's not really a bad seat in the house.
It's also all ages, so bring the kids.
